Measles Cases in Texas Continue to Rise

As of May 13, Measles cases in Texas continue to rise with 717 cases confirmed since late January. The outbreak is primarily in West Texas, but a recent possible measles exposure in Fredericksburg and Austin was reported on May 7 after an El Paso resident visited several locations.

Community First Health Plans reminds Members the best way to prevent getting sick is to be immunized with two doses of a vaccine against measles, which is primarily administered as the combination measles-mumps-rubella vaccine. Two doses of the MMR vaccine are highly effective at preventing measles.
